RM SOTHEBY’S MILAN SALE JUNE 15, 2021 BERGAMO, ITALY

    250 GTE 2+2 SERIES III, S/N 4541 GT (1963). Grigio Fumo with beige Connolly leather. Estimate €400,000 to €450,000. Completed on 22 April 1963 and sold to its first private owner, Merlino Silvano. Mr. Silvano would retain the car until 8 January 1965, after which it was sold to Bruno Coppo. From Coppo, the 250 GTE passed through a number of owners in the following decades, yet it always remained registered in northern Italy. When it was acquired by its present owner and consignor in 2013, it was said to be well-preserved and in good mechanical condition yet showing its age. A total restoration by specialists began. Toni Auto of Maranello sorted the mechanicals, while Elettrauto Franco refurbished the electrical systems. The body, stripped to bare metal during the job, now wears original color of Grigio Fumo and the interior in beige Connolly leather by Tappezzeria Luppi. Borrani wire wheels refurbished by the Borrani factory. Classiche certification. Less than 275 km since restoration. Lot 112. Sold for €466,250.

 

    250 GT BERLINETTA LUSSO, S/N 4563 GT (1963). Grigio Argento with nero leather. Estimate €1.4 million to €1.8 million. Completed by the factory on March 9, 1963, it was destined to remain in its native Italy and was sold new through the official dealer Garage Fontanella & Co. in Turin. At some point later it was exported to France. In 1977, it was sold to Jean Richard of Curgies, France, who subsequently placed the car into storage for the following fourteen years. In October of 1991 it was sold to Roger Vermon who set about restoring the car, refinishing it red with black interior. The car remained in France until December 2006 when it was sold to Switzerland. In 2009, the Lusso was acquired by Jean-Pierre Slavic. Fully restored to its original color by a team of marque specialists in Italy including Bacchelli & Villa and Autofficina Bonini from 2009-2011. Odometer shows just over 3,500 km. Classiche certified, toolkit and owner’s manual. Lot 116. Sold for €1.48 million.

 

    275 GTB, S/N 8641 (1966). Azzurro with nero leather. Estimate €2 million to €2.5 million. Owned by Roger Vadim. Purchased on 15 June 1966. Long-nose steel bodywork, torque tube, and three Weber carburetors. Later that summer it was transferred to Fonda. The pair kept their 275 GTB for about two and a half years. In November 1968, it was purchased by a Mr. Tamalet. The car was repainted red. By April 1972 it had passed to Christian and Anne Baverey. On 16 April 1980 it was owned by Michel Ferry. After several other owners, it found its way to the consignor roughly twenty years ago. In the last five years it was subject to a full restoration to bring the car back to its original color scheme of Azzurro with nero. Classiche certification. Lot 110. Sold for €2.25 million.

 

    550 MARANELLO COMPETIZIONE CONVERSION, VIN ZFFZR49B000115811 (1999). Blue with nero interior. Estimate €1.8 million to €2.2 million. One of four Italtecnica cars built. It made its race debut in the first round of the 2001 FIA GT Championship at Monza. Entered by Team Rafanelli, their race ended in retirement. The second round at Brno finished fifth, whilst at Magny-Cours two weeks later, they recorded a fourth. After lying dormant for the majority of the 2002 season, it was loaned to Touring Car team Dart Racing for the last three rounds of that year’s FIA GT Championship. Suitably updated to 2002 specifications by Milan-based J.A.S Motorsport. For 2003, car owner Garbagnati entrusted preparation responsibilities to JMB Racing. The 2004 season represented 115811’s competitive swan song, with JMB’s lead driver Lorenzo Casè securing three overall victories in the car at Imola, Magione and Vallelunga en route to third place in the end of year standings. Following the conclusion of its contemporary race career, the car was sold to a Frenchman and then to a German collector, the latter commissioning former JMB engineer Jean-Christophe Noel to undertake a comprehensive restoration. It was acquired by the vendor in 2018, who reinstated the 2002 Red Bull livery and undertook a complete engine and gearbox rebuild. Fully race prepared and ready to do battle once again. Lot 117. Sold for €1.8 million.

 

    348 GT COMPETIZIONE (7/11), VIN ZFFUA35B000098226 (1993). Red. Estimate €260,000 to €360,000. Acquired by Danish amateur racer Peter Andersen via Danish Ferrari importer Daamgard-Nielsen Automobiler on 3 May 1994. Andersen raced the car extensively over the next decade, principally in Ferrari-Porsche Challenge and Ferrari Challenge events. Throughout the car’s competitive career, it was prepared by Ferrari Team Kroymans. Acquired by the vendor directly from Andersen last year. The distinctive “Scuderia Salmoni” livery a somewhat tongue-in-cheek reference to its long-term owner’s business background in wholesale fish import/export. Lot 103. Sold for €241,250.
